Gucci Names its Next Location for Cruise 2019 Show – Viva La France!
Gucci has chosen a French site for the location of its Cruise 2019 show.
The show will be held on May 30, 2018 – so pop that in your fashion calendar.
Positioned outside the town of Arles in the South of France, the site is world heritage listed by UNESCO.
It is situated outside the town of Arles in the South of France.
Its beauty and appeal for fashion shows lies in the tree-lined path with sarcophagi, (tombs), on either side. It is one of the most famous of the worlds most renowned Roman necropoleis.
A necrepoleis is an ancient cemetery, and as you can imagine, has significant cultural significance and importance.
Gucci Links its Name with History
It is not unusual for Gucci to choose places of cultural significance for its cruise shows.
In previous years the shows have been located at DIA-Art Foundation in New York, the Cloisters at Westminster Abbey in London, and the Palatina Gallery in Florences Palazzo Pitti.
Perhaps Gauguin and Van Gogh Were Onto Something!
The area was made by even more famous by Paul Gauguin and Vincent Van Gogh. They both loved the area for its natural beauty, and captured the ancient burial ground in many forms.
As we can see from the image below, Paul Gauguin seems to have captured a glimpse of what we might see in May: some individuals, perhaps models, strolling down the tree-lined paths with the tomes of the dead lurking behind the trees.
